Christmas

Growing up in a large family meant there was always a reason to bake, we had to get ready for Christmas of course. My mother was an avid baker and she taught us as soon as we could sit still long enough to help..apple pies. raisin (some people have never heard of a raisin pie, think butter tart on a larger scale lol..yup..warm with ice cream..a little bit of heaven right there. Probably where my obsession with food starter..but that’s another blog post.

My mother always went out of her way during the holidays, I guess thats why its always been my favourite time of the year. I now have grandchildren and that makes it even more exciting..So when I plan my Christmas sessions it’s always a lot of fun, I can see the excitement in the eyes of the children well before they ever walk into the studio. This year as I planned the set, trying to figure out what I was gonna do I happen to see a set that looked like real snow..WOW!! that would be cool I thought..well it is and the kids love it..So this year the set is made with real life like snow that expands when water is added to it. It is non-toxic to kids and dogs, although they really shouldn’t be eating it..

I am excited to see the kids faces when they see the Winter Wonderland set..its so cool..so pun intended LOL, seriously the snow is cold to the touch and a bit slippery to stand in so we will have to take care during the sessions it’ll be fun but I can just see the mess afterwards.. I love to have the kids stay for a light snack afterwards and a little surprise for them to take home..I truly want it to be an experience and not just a “photoshoot”.

I have always wanted to help my community and so this year will be the first of many years I will be donating part of the session fee to a local charity, It was so hard to choose that I chose a different one each week and hope to fill up those dates and be able to give a nice donation to the charity. I have already contacted l’autre chez soi, I have given to this charity for Mother’s Day before, gift baskets as a surprise from their children. I am blessed that I have a loving and supportive husband and I cannot imagine having to go through what some of these ladies have been through. So it really means a lot to me to be able to help this organization out. The local food bank is another charity that I believe in and I think it is a huge blessing to our community. The Snowsuit Fund is another organization that tugs at my heart strings, I have given to before and think its wonderful. The final organization I want to help is, the local SPCA, because they help the community and they take care of the lost or abandoned pets. I have called them and they were very excited for the help, so my very last day November 28th , I will have the Pet Photo Day where I open the studio and you can bring your pet, as long as they are well behaved they are welcome, we did this last year and it was a huge success…

I look forward to seeing you at this years event, feel free to share my post, thank you for taking the time to stop by.
